Lt Harold Kleindienst served with the 45th Infantry Division for the duration. He started with the 189th Field Artillery Battalion, was promoted to Captain and detailed to Division Artillery staff. During the Anzio campaign he kept a notebook of refference points for fire missions by the 189th FA Bn.(for more information on Harold Kleindeinst)

Communication on the beachhead occured by hand carried message, Radio or Field telephone the following is the phone directory for Anzio Beachhead. To make a phone call to "A" Battery 189th Field Artillery, you would crank the bell and ask for "PARK" and when connected with "Park" switchboard you would request A Battery Hq.
