| Colonel William O. Darby, after his Ranger Battalion was desimated, took command of the 2nd Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment. Shortly after, he took command of the entire regiment till returning back to the Rangers after Anzio. Col. Darby was originally offered command of the 180th Infantry Regiment in Sicily, but chose to stay with his Rangers. |
