He was in born in Roxbury, Vt., on Jan. 28, 1921, a son of Dennis Myron and Gertrude (LaVanway-Spooner) Gile, Sr. and was raised in the Waterbury, Warren, Waitsfield areas of Vermont and lived there many years. He entered the Army on December 23, 1943 and was with the 645th Tank Destroyer, BN, attached to the 45th Infantry Division and served as a gunner. He saw action in Central Europe, Rhineland, Rome-Arno and Southern France. He was honorably discharged in late 1945.

Roy M. Gile, 86, of Lebanon, Maine, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2007, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Richard (Melissa) Osborne, Jr., in the comfort of his family, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's.
